Understand and calculate OEE.
Knowing your OEE means knowing where your production loses money. SMARTR.factory calculates the KPI automatically and in real time. No Excel acrobatics required.
OEE is the most important KPI in our production and excellently implemented with SMARTR.factory. For all three OEE components the thresholds can be defined and visualised independently of each other. This gives you a quick overview across all lines in the plant. In real time for the operator on site, or for freely selectable periods that technicians and managers use for productivity-improvement analyses.

What is OEE?
Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE) is calculated from availability × performance × quality and expresses, in a single KPI, the productivity of a machine or process after deducting losses. An OEE calculation is not limited to machine data capture; via operating data capture it also works for manual, labour-intensive processes.
Only breaking the formula down into its three factors reveals exactly where efficiency and profitability are lost in production.
Availability
Actual operating time / Planned operating time × 100 = Availability in %
Planned operating time is the total time available to a machine or process, accounting for planned downtime (e.g. maintenance).
Actual operating time is the planned operating time minus all stops and disruptions. Availability therefore shows the share of planned time during which the machine actually ran.
Performance
Total quantity produced / Max. possible quantity × 100 = Performance in %
The performance factor shows how much the machine produced during its actual runtime, measured against what it could have produced at most.
The reference value ‚actual operating time' is decisive here – otherwise losses from standstills would be counted twice.
Quality
Good quantity / Total quantity produced × 100 = Quality in %
Quality relates the good quantity (quantity produced minus scrap and rework) to the total quantity.
It shows what share of the production quantity was made without scrap or rework.
Digital systems instead of pen and paper
Many companies calculate their OEE from hand-written records that first have to be transferred laboriously into Excel before the KPI can even be determined.
That is not only time-consuming but also error-prone!
On top of that: whoever evaluates only days later can no longer steer production while it is still running.
With software-based, real-time OEE capture, production staff not only save valuable time, managers also decide faster and better.
Calculate OEE yourself
Work out your OEE in less than a minute – interactive and instantly visible.
What does the investment return?
A higher OEE means more usable production time at the same fixed costs. Every extra point feeds straight into your value creation.
Even a few points more OEE add up over the year to substantial sums per machine.
Set your OEE target and see immediately what even small improvements can achieve.
